Earth Day should be everyday!

tree trunk arts hopes to make a small effort to offset the impact of the environmental impact of the production, packaging, and shipping of the business. As trees are so near and dear to what I do I have partnered with ONE TREE PLANTED, in a one for one tree planting program with every E Newsletter sign up and every product sold a dollar is donated to plant a tree. Pretty prefect!

Recently I attended a lecture by Lauren Bush Lauren, the Co-Founder of FEED Projects, an accessory brand donates to the United Nations World Food Programme to feed children around the world, she said something that really stuck with me  "as consumers we inherently want to do good."This really got me thinking about the choices we make as consumers and the impact out purchases can make.

Whether it is buying local, using reusable bags,  reusing and recycling, or supporting companies that have environmentally responsible practices, where and with who we spend our money and buy what we need can have an impact. As a maker and seller of a product, I am forever thinking of how I can do better- recyclable packaging, responsible shipping, ethical metalsmithing practices.  When I buy materials I want to know where they came from and where they will go.  Using recycled metals, reusing card broad packaging, ethically mined stones, locally sourced supplies, and eco friendly production practices are all ways I try to do good while still making what I love.

It is my hope that your feel that love in the pieces you purchase and the packages you receive them in.  With this new partnership with One Tree Planted I hope to take it one step further to reverse the effects of business.

All the best,

Collyn

LET'S PLANT SOME TREES!

tree trunk arts is joining the Million Tree Challenge, through a partnership with ONE TREE PLANTED, as one of 500 awesome companies who will plant 2,000 trees in California this year, helping the state recover from the worst fire season in its history.  With every e-newsletter sign up and product purchased , tree trunk arts will donate one dollar to plant one tree, with the goal of reaching 2,000 trees planted this year!  It's an ambitious goal for this little tree loving company, but with your help we can do it!

Why trees in California?

Five years of drought and a large-scale bark beetle infestation have seriously affected the health California’s forests. 2017’s record-breaking wildfire season burned more than 1.3 million acres – an area the size of Delaware. Now, a record 129 million trees need to be restored in California.

California's most recent drought (2012-16) saw low precipitation combine with record high temperatures. The combination of low precipitation and record high temperatures during California’s most recent drought (2012–16) resulted in dramatically increased tree mortality and large, severe wildfires. The State Forest Service now spends over 50% of its budget fighting fires, when a decade ago it was less than 20%.

California’s forests need active management in order to improve their health, reduce the risk of major wildfires and pest infestations, and protect this beautiful natural playground for future generations. One Tree Planted's amazing reforestation partners work with several state and federal forestry assistance programs as well as private landowners, aiming to improve the health and productivity of forest lands.

One Tree Planted is a 5013C Non Profit based in Vermont, that simply put is dedicated to planting one tree at a time.
